Haarlemmer Oil
The most famous and widely distributed means is certainly the famous Haarlemmer oil. This product, a mixture of herbs, terebint holie and sulfur, also called medicamentum gratia probatum, has been world famous for more than 300 years.
The beneficial agent is said to have been invented in 1696 by Haarlemmer Claes Tilly. Haarlemmer oil was considered a panacea. It has been almost invaluable for Haarlem, because it has made the city known all over the world. After all, many seafarers, missionaries and missionaries took a bottle of medicine with them on their journeys to distant continents.
